About

Victor Mestas and Gonzalo Teppa together form the Very Good “V.G.” duet (also short for V – Victor and G – Gonzalo). This Latin Jazz duo will play Venezuelan jazz with a blend of other Latin American music styles. With credits spanning Central and South America; Mestas and Teppa bring a unique musical  sound to the Front Range and Rocky Mountains they both currently call home.

Victor Mestas

Victor Mestas was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, and studied at the “J. A. Lamas” School of Music with Carmen Moleiro. He is an endorsement artist for YAMAHA keyboards in Venezuela (2001). His professional background includes more than 100 recording productions for national and international renowned artists. Mestas has performed as a pianist, keyboardist and arranger for renowned bands in Latin America and Venezuela, including Guaco and Trabuco Venezolano. He has also accompanied an array of world renowned singers, including: Soledad Bravo, Cheo Feliciano, and Julio Iglesias 2010 Tour in Uruguay and Argentina. He moved to Boulder 5 years ago with his wife and two daughters. Locally, he’s been performing on the Brazilian-Latin Jazz scene, and last year he started to teach a Latin Jazz Ensemble at the Thompson Jazz Studies Program at CU-Boulder.

Gonzalo Teppa

Gonzalo Teppa is a two-time Latin Grammy Nominee  for “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album” and “Best Latin Jazz Album”, for work on the recordings “Tiempo” by Linda Briceño; and “3rd Element” by Luisito Quintero. In 2004, 2005, and 2006 he was named “Best Jazz Soloist” by Downbeat Magazine in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Teppa received “Best Jazz Soloist” award at the Greeley Jazz Festival in 2004 and 2005. He has performed with: Wynton Marsalis, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Matt Wilson, Ed Simon, Chris Potter, Tom Harrell, Ron Miles, Art Lande, Slide Hampton, Don Byron, Jeremy Pelt, Ben Goldberg, and others.
