Mike Block on Developing your Own Voice

Mar 10, 2017 | Off the Hook Arts

During SummerFest, June 19 – 24th, Off the Hook Arts has the privilege of hosting members of Yo-Yo Ma’s Grammy Winning Silk Road Ensemble musicians led by multi-style cellist Mike Block.  Hailed by Yo-Yo Ma as the “ideal musician of the 21st-Century”, and acclaimed by the NY Times for his “vital rich-hued solo playing”, Mike is a champion of empowering musicians to develop their own voice and understand the benefits of learning multiple styles of musical genres and cultures.

After playing with Yo-Yo Ma in the Silk Road Ensemble for 11 years they began a joint project,  Silkroad Global Musician Workshop at DePauw University, which brings together musicians from around the globe. This compelling video tells the story about his creative path and process. You won’t regret the 10 minutes spent watching it. Want more tips on how to develop your own style?
