Debi Strick
Piano
Originally from Denver, Debi earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in 1972, where she met her husband. They've been married for 51 years and have three children and three grandchildren. Teaching piano since 2000, she attributes much of her teaching skills to a 1999 piano pedagogy class with Dr. Erol Haun at the same university.
Her piano teaching journey began at “Natural Music” in Loveland, later moving to “The Music Maker” before transitioning to “Music and Arts.” Despite the corporate decision to close the latter, she continued teaching her students at her home, hosting biannual recitals at First Christian Church with themed performances.
She actively participates in music clubs like the Fort Collins Federation Music Club, where she serves as treasurer, and the Fort Collins Music Teachers Association, engaging her students in various beneficial events. Learning from multiple instructors, including Dr. Haun, Ruth Hale, Christine Schumann, Pat Burge, and Mary Ann Ranney, she employs a mix of Suzuki and traditional teaching methods, emphasizing the importance of reading music. A composer herself, she showcased three of her compositions at a Fort Collins MTA recital. Currently, since September 2023, she teaches piano at the Boys and Girls Club in Loveland and continues her private lessons at home.
