Previewing Brentano’s talent with A Late Quartet

Feb 7, 2020 | News, Off the Hook Arts, WinterFest

As the air outside got colder, the atmosphere inside the Lyric Theatre ignited with intensity and a full house.

The below-freezing temperatures in Fort Collins meant nothing to Off the Hook Arts’ WinterFest attendees as they packed in the Lyric Feb. 5 to watch A Late Quartet. A 2012 film, A Late Quartet features WinterFest’s special guests the Brentano String Quartet on nearly all of its soundtrack.

The movie follows a famous quartet as they prepare for their final performance together due to the declining health of their cellist, played by Christopher Walken. Confronted by their demons, the other members must learn to navigate their relationships and true desires all while rehearsing Ludwig van Beethoven’s Opus 131. Brentano String Quartet’s own Nina Lee also makes an appearance as herself in the closing scene.

This WinterFest event marks a night for the celebration of both music and musicianship within the local community, along with a chance to relax and escape into a different world. As Off the Hook Arts gears up to host the Brentano String Quartet in Boulder Feb. 8 and in Loveland Feb. 9, it was the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with their playing style and find insight into what it truly takes to become world-renowned musicians.

Tickets for other WinterFest events and the performances by the Brentano String Quartet can be found on the Off the Hook Arts events page.
